Figbar in Norwich is a modern meeting place, where pre-theatre pick-me-ups shine and first dates don’t have to end.
It’s a place to eat, drink, and socialize after that relaxing sigh with the first bit of exactly what you’ve been craving. Figbar aims to amplify your sweet tooth and bring dessert into focus.
Figbar is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Jaime and Stephanie Garbutt. They first met in Norwich in 2007 when Stephanie was completing her MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. Jaime, then chef at Fizzbuzz restaurant, wooed her with a whirlwind tour of the highlights of Norfolk’s eating scene.
In the summer of 2016 Jaime and Stephanie opened Figbar which is located in the heart of Norwich’s trendy Lanes district, home to some of the most creative independent retailers, eateries and public houses anywhere in the UK.
Jaime Garbutt, Executive Chef and Owner, creates and designs Figbar’s inventive dessert-only menu: every element of which you can watch him make in Figbar’s open kitchen.
Here, you can see his stunning pastry background in action: positions in Michelin-starred Petrus and Morston Hall, Ottolenghi, Metfield artisan Bakery, and Head of Pastry at Made in Camden, The Playboy Club London, and the Jinjuu Group before he and his wife, Stephanie, opened Figbar.
The menu features plated desserts and changes often. An example of offerings includes ‘Stranger Skye’ (chocolate moelleux, tonka madeline, coffee mousse, coffee gel, chocolate soil, Talisker ice cream) and ‘banoffee’ (banoffee caramel, lime crème fraiche, maple candied pecans, banana caramel ice cream, hazelnuts, shortbread).
Wine & Dine
An interesting wine list pairs beautifully with the menu. Soft drinks and teas and coffees are also available. The counter is always full of creative cakes and sweet treats like peanut butter and jelly financiers, stout mocha cake, key lime pie, and jaffa cakes. These offerings vary daily and can also be taken away.
All of our pastries, ice creams, breads, and goodies are freshly made here each morning in our kitchen by Chef Jaime Garbutt. Savouries and Sweet Treats vary daily.
